Investigation into Fatal Shooting at 8300 South Course Drive

The fatal shooting of a male found in the 8300 block of South Course Drive about 4:35 a.m. today (Feb. 25) will be referred to a Harris County grand jury.
The identity of the male is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
The male shooter, 23, was not injured.
HPD Homicide Division Sergeant C. LaFour and Detective J. Diaz reported:
HPD patrol officers responded to a shooting call at 10215 Beechnut Street. When officers arrived, they learned the shooting occurred in the 8300 block of South Course Drive. Officers located a male suffering from multiple gunshot wounds inside a vehicle. Paramedics pronounced him deceased at the scene.
A male (shooter) told officers he walked out of his apartment complex to his vehicle when he saw an unknown male at the rear of the vehicle. The vehicle owner stated the unknown male was rummaging through the vehicle and had opened its trunk.  The owner went back to his apartment to retrieve his firearm and approached the unknown male, who was now sitting in the driver seat. He stated he gave the unknown male verbal commands to exit his vehicle, which he refused.  The vehicle owner stated he believed the unknown male was reaching for a weapon and, fearing for his safety, the owner discharged his firearm striking the unknown male multiple times. The owner then called 911 and remained at the scene.
The Harris County District Attorney’s Office was contacted and it was determined the case would be presented to a grand jury for review.
