Investigation into Incident at 1500 East Crosstimbers Street
Houston police are investigating an incident where a male fatally shot himself and an HPD officer discharged his duty weapon at 1500 East Crosstimbers Street about 12:55 p.m. on Friday (Nov. 28).
The identity of the deceased male is pending notification to family members by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
Officer G. Zimmerman, who discharged his duty weapon, was not injured in this incident. Officer Zimmerman is assigned to the Northeast Patrol Division and was sworn in as an officer in January 2024.
HPD Homicide Division Detectives M. Althaus and J. Jorsch reported:
Officers responded to a responded to a family disturbance where they were told the male had produced a handgun to a family member and had expressed his intent to hurt himself. Officers located the male in the 1500 block of Crosstimbers, where he drew his gun and held it to his head. At the same time the male shot himself, an HPD officer also discharged his duty weapon in the direction of the suspect.
An autopsy by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences will determine the male’s manner and cause of death.
As is customary in HPD officer-involved shooting incidents in the Houston city limits, this case is being investigated by the HPD Special Investigations Unit, the Internal Affairs Division and the Harris County District Attorney’s Office.
