Houston police are investigating the shooting of an armed suspect by an HPD officer at 203 West Greens Road about 9 a.m. today (December 1).
The suspect, 33, was transported to an area hospital and is expected to survive his injuries.
HPD Officer M. Reyna, who discharged his duty weapon, was not injured in the incident. He was sworn in as an HPD officer in May 2020 and is assigned to the North Belt Patrol Division.
HPD Homicide Division Sergeants M. Brady and M. Casso reported:
A female employee was opening a business at the above address when she approached by a male with a gun. The male forced the female into the store where she managed to activate a silent alarm. An HPD officer responded to the alarm call and encountered the male suspect as he was exiting the business. The suspect was holding the clerk at gunpoint. The suspect then pointed the gun at the officer and the officer discharged his duty weapon, striking the armed suspect multiple times.
Houston Fire Department Paramedics transported the suspect to an area hospital, where he is in police custody. Charges are pending as the investigation continues.
The female was not injured.
As is customary in officer involved shooting incidents, the case is being investigated by the HPD Homicide Division, HPD Robbery Division, the Internal Affairs Division and the Harris County District Attorney’s Office.
