Investigation into Fatal Crash at 100 East Loop
Houston police are investigating the fatal crash that occurred at 100 East Loop (Interstate Highway 610 East) about 1:30 a.m. on Sunday (June 28).
The identity of the deceased male, 25, is pending notification to family members by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant G. Garcia reported:
The driver of a silver Nissan Altima was traveling on the Ship Channel bridge at the above address when the vehicle was struck from behind by a black Chevrolet Silverado, also traveling on the bridge. According to witnesses the driver of the Altima may have been traveling at a slow rate of speed or was disabled in a moving lane of traffic.
After striking the Altima the Silverado then rolled over. The Altima struck the guardrail.
Responding Houston Fire Department paramedics transported the driver of the Altima to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The driver of the Silverado, who was not injured, remained at the scene. He did not show signs of intoxication and was questioned and released.
The investigation is continuing.
