Investigation into Fatal Crash at 10001 Gulf Freeway

Houston police are investigating the fatal crash that occurred at 10001 Gulf Freeway (South Interstate Highway 45) about 8 p.m. on Sunday (August 23).
The identity of the deceased female, 59, is pending notification to family members by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant D. Hall and Officer R. Young reported:
HPD officers received a report of a female running in and out of traffic in the 1000 block of the Gulf Freeway service road. An officer responded and was not able to locate the female. On his return through the area, the officer spotted the female on the southbound side of the Gulf Freeway and yelled toward her to get off the street. When the officer attempted to turn his vehicle around, the female ran across the southbound lanes of the freeway and then across the HOV lane. She then ran into the northbound lanes of the freeway where she was struck by silver Chevrolet pickup truck.
The driver of the pickup truck remained at the scene, did not show signs of intoxication, and was questioned and released.
The investigation is continuing.
