Suspect Arrested, Charged in Fatal Assault at 7801 Canal Street

Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in the fatal assault of a man at 7801 Canal Street about 9 a.m. on August 20, 2025.
The suspect, Anthony Cerda, 34, is charged with capital murder in the 232nd Criminal Court. A booking photo of Cerda is attached to this news release.
The victim is identified as Francisco Chura, 90.
HPD Homicide Division D. Toledo and H. Martinez reported:
HPD patrol officers responded to a responded to a report of an assault at the above address and located Mr. Chura with multiple blunt force trauma wounds to his body. Houston Fire Department paramedics transported Chura to an area hospital where he later died from his injuries on September 7, 2025.
Further investigation identified Anthony Cerda as a suspect in this case. Today, June 12, Cerda was arrested by the HPD Eastside Division Gang Unit and booked into the Harris County jail.
